Ecobank and Global Fund in an Innovative Partnership

In December 2013, Ecobank and the Global Fund to fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria announced a partnership that included technical assistance, advocacy and cash contribution worth a total of $3 million, over a three year period.

Ecobank and the Ecobank Foundation are partnering with the Global Fund in innovative regional and country specific technical assistance programs that aim to strengthen the financial management capabilities of grant recipients. Ecobank is contributing training in financial management skills, accounting and reporting to facilitate improved grant applications, as well as the implementation and evaluation processes. Work is being undertaken with grant recipients in Nigeria and South Sudan as a first phase.

Ecobank and the Global Fund will also work together to leverage the Bank's financial competencies to set up Innovative Finance mechanisms. The partnership model is innovative and capable of being scaled up with further donor support. Ecobank’s commitment will help facilitate the Global Fund’s support for local outreach to the most vulnerable populations across Africa in the fight against the three diseases.
