Training Program for Hazelnut Farmers in Georgia

Improving the capacity of Georgian hazelnut producers and giving farmers access to best practices and market opportunities.

Economic Prosperity Initiative

The training program aims to support enhancement of productivity, exports, and employment in the hazelnut sector through courses designed to share best practices and help farmers increase their marketable yield of hazelnuts. To date, the program has trained about 800 farmers. The four-year program will build the capacity of 2,000 agricultural producers on modern agricultural practices in hazelnut production and post-harvest handling. EPI “knowledge plots” for hazelnuts will also provide “on-the-field” farmer training on production with modern equipment. EPI is also engaging Georgian agronomists, who, after completion of the training, will, in turn, train farmers.
