The Global Water Partnership (GWP) is a working partnership among all those involved in water management. GWP was founded in 1996 by the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) to foster integrated water resource management (IWRM). The Global Water Partnership's vision is for a water secure world. Its mission is to support the sustainable development and management of water resources at all levels. The network is open to all organizations involved in water resources management: developed and developing country government institutions, agencies of the United Nations, bi- and multi-lateral development banks, professional associations, research institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. This initiative was based on promoting and implementing integrated water resources management through the development of a worldwide network that could pull together financial, technical, policy and human resources to address the critical issues of sustainable water management.
