Goodbye Malaria is an initiative by African entrepreneurs who believe that African creativity can solve Africa’s problems. The initiative raises funds that go to the Global Fund and Roll Back Malaria to support on-the-ground malaria elimination programs in Mozambique such as spraying houses to protect families from the malaria-infected mosquitos, provision of mosquito nets, diagnostic tests and medicines to local communities.
Launched in 2013, the Goodbye Malaria Campaign uses a community development approach to mobilize fundraising and advocacy against malaria, while also creating local employment in areas affected by the disease. Local communities are employed to design and create Goodbye Malaria products, including sleepwear, teddy bears and beaded bracelets. These products are marketed to corporations and individuals in Africa and the global community, using the slogan “Save a life in your sleep.” Moreover, through its long-standing partnership, Nando raised $600,000 in 2011-2013 through the sale of the “Malaria Safe” bracelet to pay for insecticide-treated nets against malaria for families in Africa.
