With the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development, Creative’s Alianza Joven Honduras uses grants and technical assistance to enable the government, private sector and affected communities to address violence and reform the justice system. Alianza Joven Honduras focuses on five northern cities— San Pedro Sula, Choloma, La Ceiba, Puerto Lempira and Tegucigalpa—that are experiencing the most violence.
The AJH will support gang-prevention efforts in Honduras by launching activities and partnerships to ensure the sustainability of the AJR Outreach Centers located in Honduras and strengthen their ability to provide quality services for at-risk youth to become productive citizens and positive forces in their communities. AJH is also implementing PROPONTE, a secondary prevention approach that uses the Youth Service Eligibility Tool to identify risk factors associated with joining gangs. PROPONTE reduces these risk factors and prevents youth from affiliating with gangs by increasing parental supervision and family cohesion.
The purpose of this program is to build upon the success of the USAID/Creative Associates "Alianza Joven Regional (AJR)", the Regional Gang Prevention Activity (FY 2008 through FY 2012) funded under the Regional LAC Program (LAC/RP).
