Microfinance Program for HIV Prevention and Gender Equity in South Africa

Addressing HIV/AIDS and its economic and social implications through a gender-based microfinance program.

Intervention with Microfinance for AIDS and Gender Equity (IMAGE)

This three-year partnership between USAID, Chevron South Africa and AngloAmerican works toward the prevention of HIV, poverty reduction and gender equity. The program incorporates microfinance with a health and gender-oriented training curriculum called Sisters For Life (SFL). It promotes economic empowerment among women and reduce vulnerability to HIV and gender-based violence.
