Nepal Family Health Program II

JSI has worked in Nepal since 1981 to assist the government in developing a functional health care system that integrates health services to meet people's needs. Under the USAID-funded Nepal Family Health Program II (NFHP II), JSI continued the work of its successful predecessor, the Nepal Family Health Program.

Nepal Family Health Program II

The initiative improved the delivery and use of basic public sector family planning, maternal, newborn, child health, and literacy/life skills services, in a manner that built local capacity and encouraged stakeholder collaboration. With a key emphasis on gender and social inclusion, including improving service delivery for disadvantaged populations, NFHP II worked in 20 districts around the country.

JSI partnered with the Government of Nepal and NGOs at the national, district, and community levels, focusing on community-level and other peripheral FP/MNCH services. The Project's technical areas included:

  • Systems, policy, and leadership, including leadership and management capacity building, and health logistics strengthening
  • Service delivery, including at the health facility and community levels
  • Community and household-level interventions, including support for community participation in governance of local health services; literacy and life skills; and household practices.
