Regional Planning and Development in the Amazonas, Acre and Pará

Wild cocoa provides a major source of income in the improverished Amazon regions. The development partnership between GIZ and the German chocolatier, Bremer Hachez Chocolade GmbH & Co KG, seeks to protect the unique eco system of the Amazon region while providing local farmers with a steady source of income. The project strengthens the capacity, organizational and communicational structure of the pickers’ cooperative, Cooperativa Agroextrativista do Mapiá e Médio Purus and provides market access opportunities, thereby raising the income levels of local farmers.
