USAID has partnered with Olam, a leading global supply chain manager of agricultural products and food ingredients, and the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) for an integrated rice farming and rice processing project in Kwara State, Nigeria. This partnership aims to improve the self-sufficiency of farmers and lessen reliance on exports. Olam is a major company in the food commodities market both globally and in Nigeria. This project has involved 12,000 smallholder farmers growing rice to ensure improved input supplies, better seeds, and timely information to improve yields and returns to the farmer. Olam will provide a guaranteed market for the farmers. In this way, the development of food crop value chain is line with the AECF’s aims and objectives.
