Tanzanian Training Center for International Health (TTCIH) Project

Increasing health interventions aimed at reducing child and maternal mortality and tackling diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB require more and better trained health personnel. Great emphasis, therefore, has to be placed on human resource development.

Tanzanian Training Center for International Health (TTCIH)

The Tanzanian Training Centre for International Health (TTCIH) among others trains Assistant Medical Officers (AMOs), a qualification similar to a university medical degree and a priority for the Tanzanian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Educating more AMOs helps increase the quality and range of health services, especially in rural areas where health workers are needed most.

The training center has also established expertise in maternal and child health and offers its own range of courses also through e-learning applications. The TTCIH was the first centre to introduce the e-learning program ICATT (IMCI Computerized Adaptation and Training Tool) for training in Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI).

Partnership objectives:

  • Improve quality of health training, specifically in maternal and child health, to strengthen human resources in the health sector in Tanzania and beyond.
  • Strengthen the institutional and financial self-reliance of the training center.
