The UltraRice Project

Improve micronutrient deficiencies among rice consuming populations in low and middle income countries.

The Abbott Fund has provided a three-year, $1.5 million grant to increase production capacity of fortified grains, develop low-cost quality control and blending equipment and systems, and expand the introduction of fortified rice to demonstrate sustainability and scalability within India’s public and private sector. In addition, Abbott nutrition scientists are working with PATH to improve the formulation and production of Ultra Rice through enhancement of iron delivery, expanding nutrient profile, and cost reduction.
