In 2008, the PepsiCo Foundation contributed $4.1 million to Water.org resulting, to date, in more than 250,000 people accessing improved water and/or sanitation through initiatives funded by microfinance loans. In 2011, The PepsiCo Foundation expands its commitment to help Water.org scale WaterCredit with $8 Million Contribution to Scale ‘WaterCredit’ Across India. This second grant (2011–2016) is double the size of India’s WaterCredit portfolio. By the end of year 2013, the PepsiCo Foundation funded eff orts with Water.org directly benefited more than 700,000 people in India by providing access to safe water. The average global WaterCredit loan is $188; 91 percent of loan recipients are women; the global repayment rate for such loans is 99 percent.
