BACKGROUND

The market shaping team contributes to achieving Gavi’s mission by shaping the markets for vaccines and other immunisation products. This includes the objectives of ensuring adequate and secure supply of quality vaccines; reducing prices of vaccines and other immunisation products to an appropriate and sustainable level; and incentivising development of suitable and quality vaccines and other immunisation products. Guided by the Gavi Supply and Procurement Strategy, the team develops, coordinates, communicates and contributes to the implementation of evidence-based supply and procurement strategies. The team is responsible for Alliance long-term forecasting of demand and financial needs. The team both leads and contributes to identifying and finding Alliance solutions for broad questions arising from market-based health-commodity related challenges.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES

  • Outstanding analytical input to the Gavi strategy for market shaping and procurement of vaccines;
  • Models of short and long term scenarios of procurement outcomes using required analytical tools;
  • Documentation of analytical approach for stakeholders, including team and partners;

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide full support on scenarios modelling and ad-hoc analyses working collaboratively with the team and other partners;
  • Liaise with Secretariat and partner colleagues to understand short-term implementation assumptions, plans and forecasts for specific vaccines;
  • Ensure consistency of modelling approach and risk levels of the scenarios across the portfolio of vaccines;
  • Communicate results of analysis to team and partners (ad-hoc and formally);
  • Modelling support as needed on cold chain equipment strategies and procurement;
  • Lead the knowledge management and documentation efforts of the strategy and procurement team;
  • Other activities as necessary in support of Gavi Market Shaping work;
  • Coordination of tender and roadmap processes internally and with partners;

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic:

  • University degree in Sciences, Economics, Development, Public Health, Business Administration.

Work experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the following areas:
  1. Design and implementation of forecasting models;
  2. Vaccine or pharmaceutical knowledge preferable;
  3. Strategic planning/market or policy analysis in an industrial, consulting and/or academic setting;
  4. Public health and developing countries policy and development desirable.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Excellent and demonstrated quantitative analysis skills;
  • Ability to think critically, quantitatively evaluate a situation and appropriately interpret results;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious working relationships;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Attention to detail and focus on quality;
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, demonstrating initiative and flexibility.

Languages:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English required;
  • Another European language would be an asset.
