Job Title/Grade: Associate Digital Specialist/ Digital Specialist I (7-8)

Reports to: Senior Manager, Partnerships and Insights

Department: Center for Digital Acceleration, DAI Global Health

Date: August 26, 2019

Function of the Position:

This is a full-time professional position within the Center for Digital Acceleration (CDA). The position will be based in Bethesda, Maryland with overseas travel up to 20% time. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Partnerships and Insights, this position will be responsible for supporting business development efforts as well as CDA initiatives, with a primary focus on new client outreach and a secondary focus on supporting USG and DFID proposal and project efforts. S/he will work directly with the Senior Manager, Partnerships and Insights to research new business target, develop outreach strategies, develop communications materials and support and/or lead new business efforts from initial outreach to final negotiations, including research, writing, thought leadership, and conference attendance.

The Center for Digital Acceleration focuses on integrating digital and ICT tools into DAI’s project portfolio across business units to accelerate project outcomes and impact. CDA’s Partnerships & Insights team manages the group’s business development and thought leadership functions. CDA’s client base is comprised of both public and private sector clients with a focus on digital advisory, products and research.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor industry trends to inform new business strategy including market trends and key ‘hot issues” in the private sector
  • Research potential client relationships on LinkedIn and within DAI’s Customer Relationship Management solution
  • Represent CDA at public events
  • Work directly with DAI teams across business units to integrate digital activities and tools into proposal and project efforts, including scoping and designing digital activities and tools
  • Support rollout of digital activities and tools on DAI projects worldwide
  • Research and create relevant content for CDA’s/ DAI’s publications, websites, and blogs
  • Support the development of marketing strategy to inform CDA’s marketing and communications efforts
  • Attend meetings with potential clients in support of new business acquisition, including presenting CDA’s capabilities to potential new clients
  • Conduct strategic professional networking to build CDA’s new client pipeline
  • Develop new client outreach plan with roles and responsibilities for CDA team; monitor to ensure execution
  • Cultivate, manage and track potential client relationships and business opportunities
  • Use professional judgment to manage new client acquisition with minimal supervision
  • Support new business acquisition by writing about digital solutions and integrating digital activities into proposals, working on proposal efforts, and documenting corporate capabilities
  • Draft pitch decks, one pagers and concept notes
  • Perform other responsibilities related to the digital team as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 7: Minimum of 4 years of professional experience and a Bachelor’s degree; or minimum of 2 years of professional experience and a Master’s degree
  • Grade 8: Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience and a Bachelor’s degree; or minimum of 3 years of professional experience and a Master’s degree
  • Excellent communications skills – particularly in writing and relationship-building
  • Experience with digital-focused business development, private sector and/or foundation business development
  • Ability to professionally and successfully represent DAI in meetings and public events
  • Ability to meet deadlines, take initiative and accomplish work with minimal supervision and in a remote management context
  • Able to travel internationally up to 20% of the time, barring times when DAI Global security has deemed travel unsafe

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of or experience with a range of hardware and software solutions for development, for instance, mobile, portals, collaboration and social media tools, apps, open source applications, and geospatial tools.
  • Experience working directly with clients and teams in an international context, providing advisory and/or consulting services around topics related to digital development
  • Comfortable independently managing new client pitches and cultivating leads through networking and other in person methods
  • Experience drafting pitch decks, writing digital related communications and marketing materials
  • Knowledge of USAID projects and technical assistance contracting procedures
