Responsibilities Under the direction of the assigned Judge of the Tribunal, and under the overall direction and supervision of the Chief, Chambers Support Section, the incumbent will perform the following duties: 1. Perform legal research regarding international humanitarian law and human rights issues, and provide specialized legal advice, both written and oral. Select and analyze relevant international and national legal materials from identified sources for the preparation of reports or studies. 2. Draft judicial documents for Judges and Chambers. Prepare legal memoranda on behalf of the Chambers and the Legal Section. Prepare submissions for the Annual Report and the Tribunal Newsletter. 3. Assist the assigned Judge or the Chamber as necessary with administrative matters relating to the court proceedings. Assist the judiciary during Plenary meetings, participate in Working Groups, and produce minutes of the Plenary meetings. 4. Draft reports, correspondence, and speeches for the assigned Judge of the Tribunal on legal, political and organizational questions. 5. Where appropriate and as requested by the assigned judge, provide ad hoc translations of legal documents for the assistance of the assigned judge. 6. Collaborate effectively with Chambers and other staff at all levels to achieve the goals of the Section in particular and the Tribunal as a whole.

QUALIFICATIONS Education Law degree from a university, with specialization in international criminal law and/or international humanitarian law.
Work Experience At least 4 years of experience in a field related to international criminal law, criminal law or international humanitarian law, with emphasis on legal analysis, research, and writing. Experience in dealing with international criminal law or humanitarian law at the international level highly desirable.
Languages English and French are the working Languages of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English and/or French is desirable.
Other Skills Knowledge in the use of computer applications.
