Job Title/Grade: Associate New Business Manager (Grade 9)

New Business Manager (Grade 10)

Reports to: Director, New Business, Africa

Department: Business Development Unit

Function of the Position:

This is a mid to senior-level position within an embedded new business team focused on the Africa region.

Primary responsibilities include; managing proposals; providing strategic guidance on new business efforts; serving as a contributing writer, lead writer, or technical integrator on proposal teams; providing strategic recruitment and networking support; and training/mentoring staff from BDU, Delivery, and Technical Services. S/he supports multiple, simultaneous new business efforts at different stages of the opportunity life cycle. Also contributes to management/coordination of new business efforts: pipeline management, resource allocation, strategic planning, quality control and oversight of proposals.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Proposal Development: According to the ebb and flow of the proposal process, is engaged in a portfolio of new business opportunities at various stages of the opportunity lifecycle. Provide strategic oversight to prepositioning and proposal efforts, working closely with staff from Technical Services and Delivery. Serve as member of multiple proposal teams to design well thought-out proposals that are persuasive and compliant. Manage/coordinate proposals, which includes managing the proposal process; supporting pricing and recruitment; drafting proposal chapters and annexes. Mentor junior staff on new business processes. Track compliance with DAI controls and proposal processes and procedures, troubleshooting issues as needed. Serve on proposal review panels.

Marketing: Serve as member of marketing/ reconnaissance teams and lead marketing efforts in priority countries. Contribute to tailored marketing materials that are reflective of DAI’s technical strengths and geographic portfolios.

Pipeline Development: Use networks and contacts in support of pipeline development and the verification of specific new business opportunities. Undertake desktop research, coordinating as necessary with DAI’s market intelligence team.

Training/mentoring: Serve as a mentor/coach to new business teams, providing strategic guidance and support. Conduct regular new business refresher sessions (1 to 2 hours) for staff in Delivery and Technical Services. Serve as a new business trainer on skills development (1 to 2 day) courses. As needed, work with the Training Manager on upgrading training course content.

Other Services: Provide other services, such as technical writing, at the request of the New Business Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Grade 9: Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience and a bachelor’s degree, or 5 years of relevant professional experience and a master’s degree.

Grade 10: Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience and a bachelor’s degree, or 7 years of relevant professional experience and a master’s degree.

For all grades:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in international development
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in new business development, including writing; experience working in highly competitive new business efforts preferred
  • Knowledge of USG thematic and functional policies and regulations
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and writing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Field experience preferred
  • Proficiency in a relevant foreign language preferred
