Job Description

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) needs your expertise to anchor behavioural economics research methods more firmly in its own research. Founded in 1972, the centre is part of CGIAR, a global agricultural research partnership, and focuses its research on cereal cultivation in semi-arid zones. With its application-oriented research, ICRISAT makes an important contribution to improving living conditions, particularly in rural areas. Questions of behavioural change and the psychology of decision-making processes play an increasingly important role here. In particular, the results of the behavioural economics research should promote acceptance, while allowing agricultural innovations to make a broad impact.

Your tasks will involve:
  • Developing and conducting research projects on various aspects of human behaviour change like
  • Supporting ongoing research programs with behaviour change experiments, data collection and leading the statistical analysis
  • Providing support for writing winning research proposals and publication of scientific articles
  • Developing and holding training courses on behavioural economics for employees of ICRISAT and cooperation partners
Your profile:
  • PhD in economics or social science, agricultural economics or another relevant discipline with a focus on behavioural economics
  • Several years’ experience in researching behavioural economics, ideally along value chains in low- and middle-income countries
  • Relevant experience in collecting and evaluating large amounts of behavioural economics data in addition to analytical and descriptive statistics
  • Proven publishing experience in the relevant field
  • Fluent business English, and ideally knowledge of French
  • In addition you have the citizenship of an EU member state for reasons to meet the criteria of the Integrated Experts program, UK passport holders are eligible to apply
