Job Description

Palladium is a global leader in the design, development and delivery of Positive Impact - the intentional creation of enduring social and economic value. We work with foundations, investors, governments, corporations, communities and civil society to formulate strategies and implement solutions that generate lasting social, environmental and financial benefits.

For the past 50 years, we have been making Positive Impact possible. With a team of more than 2,500 employees operating in 90 plus countries and a global network of more than 35,000 technical experts, Palladium has improved - and is committed to continuing to improve - economies, societies and most importantly, people’s lives.

Palladium is a child-safe organisation, and screens applicants for suitability to work with children. We also provide equal employment to all participants and employees without regard to race, color, religion, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, veteran or marital status. Palladium are looking for a freelance writer or editor to work with us as a consultant to produce high quality written bid and proposal content that clearly articulates our value proposition to our clients.

The Bid Writer / Editor will support our capture and bud teams to develop competitive proposals to key clients (including DFID). The Bid Writer / Editor will take (sometimes large) amounts of written content and rework it to the required shape, in accordance with Palladium’s in-house style (Shipley and Plain English), and client expectations. In all cases, the end result will be highly-readable, structured, logical, and compelling. You will also be the responsible point of contact for guidance on the bid process or on the use of corporate language.

While most of the people you work with will be UK based, you can be based anywhere and we can support significant flexibility in time-zones.

You will work closely with the Business Development team, and all of Palladium’s practice areas and business units, including Health, Governance and Accountability, Environment and Natural Resources, Growth and Livelihoods, and Research, Monitoring and Evaluation The primary responsibilities are to:

* Liaise with the BD/operational team to support pre-bid activity and to develop an understanding of the client pre-tender release
* Work with the bid team to understand the structure of the bid, content to be developed, and timeline for bid content development.
* Produce professionally written bid and proposal original content that clearly articulates our value proposition, including CVs.
* Able to assimilate knowledge from a number of sources and present in a powerful way that reinforces the win themes of the bid.
* Ensure timely delivery of compliant bids and proposals across all sectors.
* Collate information from and communicate effectively with wide range of stakeholders.
* Use effective project planning strategies to ensure that all information is received on time and is relevant to questions being asked within the bid.
* You might come from a publishing/editorial/journalistic background, or simply be passionate about the written word. A teaching background would also be a good fit for our team. But whatever your background, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of various readerships/audiences.
* You will possess a degree/diploma in English or Journalism (or similar editorial discipline); alternatively, you will demonstrate ‘qualification by experience’ through a track-record of successful comparable roles.

Key competencies and professional experience required
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Editorial and writing expertise
* An enthusiastic, proactive and results-focused approach to work.
* Must be able to work under tight deadlines, with multiple/simultaneous tasks, and across time-zone challenges.
* Word at an intermediate to advanced level.
* Well organised and high attention to detail.

Desirable skills
* 2-3 years’ experience in a professional bid environment, ideally with the public sector or with clients in the international development market.
* Experience of managing multiple fast paced bids simultaneously.
* Knowledge of the bidding process with a solid understanding of how to structure, compile and write a bid/tender response.
* Strong, creative and persuasive writing style with proven skills in producing and editing winning proposal content, ideally with copywriting, editing and proof reading experience.
