Job Description

About CRS:

Catholic Relief Services is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. CRS works to save, protect, and transform lives in need in more than 100 countries, without regard to race, religion or nationality. CRS’ relief and development work is accomplished through programs of emergency response, HIV, health, agriculture, education, microfinance and peacebuilding.

CRS has been working in Asia and the Pacific since the 1940s, and currently has over 600 staff working in five country programs (India, Nepal, Cambodia, Laos, and Philippines) and 6 program offices (Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Timor Leste, and Micronesia), with outreach support provided to another 11 countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, China, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji). In Asia, CRS and partners deliver programs in emergency response and recovery, disaster risk reduction, agriculture/livelihoods, health, child protection, and inclusive education.

Job Summary:

The Business Development Manager-1 (BDM-1) is responsible to support the expansion and diversification of revenue from institutional donors and non-traditional funding sources to achieve CRS’ Vision 2030 in Asia. The BD Manager will ensure high-quality support to CRS Country Programs (CPs) as they pursue strategic funding opportunities with institutional donors to advance CRS’ mission to serve the poor and vulnerable worldwide. While this support will primarily be concentrated in the areas of positioning, capture planning, and proposal development, your knowledge and skills will allow you to provide specialized assistance in all dimensions of the CRS Business Development Cycle. As Asia experiences a high volume of natural disasters, you’ll also support rapid emergency business development efforts for medium to large-scale emergencies. In addition to displaying a high level of competency in business development and team leadership, you will also demonstrate an aptitude for strategic thinking, data and trend analysis, process improvement, collaboration and relationship management, and training and capacity building.

As countries move towards middle-income status, the funding environment in Asia is evolving. You will evaluate and introduce innovative approaches to strategic growth and positioning and advise colleagues on how to adapt to a changing funding environment in a very competitive landscape. Finally, we are committed to strengthening local leadership and supporting our strategic partners to directly access funding. As country teams support partners to pursue funding, the BD Manager will be responsible to capture experiences and develop resources to further strengthen partner abilities to secure funds. As BD Manager I, you will focus largely on CRS country programs and program offices within Asia, while also contributing to cross-regional and global initiatives as part of the agency’s worldwide BD team. This role includes coaching of BD specialists (BDS) that are embedded with country programs.

Work Conditions/Environment Conditions

· This position is assigned to the Asia region, and preferred candidates will either have a home of record within or near to Asia and the BDM will work as a telecommuter. The BDM will be expected to have overlapping work hours during at least 4 core working hours each day with country teams.

· If the successful candidate is located significantly outside of Asia’s standard time zones, we will offer to relocate the position to be based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

· Staff in the regional office work from home, though there are facilities available for staff that need to use office space occasionally for meetings or basic administration needs. This is dependent upon whether staff are located in a city/location where we have a CRS office.

· This position requires up to 40% travel, sometimes to hardship locations and for extended periods of time that can last several weeks.

· This position may be required to work on weekends and evenings during priority proposal bids and emergencies.
