Location: This role requires volunteers to be from Scotland, and you may be asked to host sessions either on a remote basis or face to face with the young person

HOW YOU WILL HELP US:

You will be involved in guiding a young person through regular 1-to-1 mentoring and active support, as they grow the necessary skills and confidence needed to achieve their goals. This may range from providing help, guidance, and support as they identify whether self-employment is right for them, test the viability of their business ideas, launch their enterprise, through to remaining alongside them in the early years as their business establishes and grows.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Understanding the circumstances of the young people involved in our programmes and how this role supports their success.
  • Motivating and empowering a young person to explore their business ideas and plans offering appropriate personal and business guidance, support, and encouragement.
  • Providing a safe space and trusted relationship for a young person to focus on developing their personal and business skills and to grow their confidence to succeed as a business owner.
  • Creating relevant 1-to-1 meeting plans that support your mentee to drive their own journey, jointly agree achievable action plans, and review and track progress with them.
  • Providing active support between 1-to-1 meetings, such as reviewing documentation, responding to emails, signposting where to find useful resources, making networking connections; etc.
  • In conjunction with your mentee, producing reports, sharing joint progress, and identifying any significant challenges where additional King’s Trust support is needed.
  • Sharing relevant learning, materials and useful resources that may benefit young people and our work. If desired, contributing to other areas of The Trust’s work and community as opportunities arise.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO THIS ROLE:

  • Business and/or professional experience such as business planning, selling, marketing, finance etc.
  • Building trust with young people from a range of backgrounds - mentoring skills, great communicator, positive, encouraging, able to give and receive constructive corrective feedback and reinforce learning and progress.
