Job Description

The Chief Financial Officer at Friendship Bridge provides leadership toward meeting the organization’s financial and strategic goals and holds responsibility for the overall finances of the organization. This individual oversees Friendship Bridge’s day-to-day accounting and finance activities in the United States and Guatemala, including monthly close, bank account reconciliations, financial reporting, multi-national consolidation of financial information, and the annual external audit. The CFO provides leadership to the treasury function, including effective cash management, forecasting, and capital raises. Of critical importance for this role is forward-looking financial planning and analysis, including leading the development of budgets, forecasts, strategic plans, and other analyses as needed.

The CFO will have a dual reporting relationship to the President & CEO (located in the United States) and the Country Director (located in Guatemala). This position is a member of the global leadership team and the Guatemala management team, and is responsible for accounting, treasury, IT, and administration. The CFO has regular interaction with the Board of Directors, is the primary point of contact for the Board Audit Committee, and is often involved in support to the Board Credit Committee.

The preferred location for the CFO position is in Guatemala, with a strong preference to be based in the organization’s headquarters in Panajachel. An alternate location for this position may be the U.S. office in Lakewood, CO. (Note that Friendship Bridge cannot sponsor a U.S. work visa.) In either case, this position requires regular travel to Friendship Bridge’s offices in rural Guatemala.

A CPA license or equivalent is strongly preferred. An MBA or other advanced degree is desired. Thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting is essential; non-profit accounting experience is strongly preferred. Experience with microfinance and/or retail or commercial banking is preferred.

About the Organization

Friendship Bridge is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that creates opportunities that empower Guatemalan women to break the generational cycle of poverty and build a better life through microfinance, education, and women’s health services.
