Brief Description:
SSG Advisors is seeking Chief of Party (COP) candidates for the anticipated USAID Bureau for Food Security activity, Advancing Women’s Empowerment Framework (AWEF). AWEF will support USG agencies, missions, and implementing partners (IPs) to enhance existing and future Feed the Future and Global Food Security Strategy (GFSS) programming through evidence-based efforts to increase women’s participation, productivity, profit, and benefit in agriculture and food systems. AWEF aims to engage more women in agricultural programming, increase women’s returns to agriculture, and improve women’s empowerment in the domains of the Gender Integration Framework (GIF) and Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI).

The Chief of Party will be a full-time position based in Washington, DC, reporting to SSG’s Inclusive Markets practice area Director.


The Chief of Party will bear primary responsibility for overall leadership, project planning and implementation, and ensuring timely and high-quality expertise and deliverables for both USAID/BFS and client USAID Missions worldwide. S/he will serve as the primary point of contact to USAID and contribute to successful, positive relationship with USAID BFS and Mission representatives and other key stakeholders (such as FTF implementing partners). The Chief of Partywill be responsible for working with her/his BFS and Mission counterparts to develop technically sound scopes of work, work with the SSG Team and AWEF consortium to identify and mobilize qualified consultants, supervise/manage assignment team leads, and contribute to deliverable delivery. As appropriate, the Chief of Party will lead and/or contribute to specific AWEF assignments and longer terms workstreams and/or assignments. The Chief of Party will be accountable for both the quality of the project, as well as for its effective financial and operational management. S/he will manage a team of technical staff, organizational partners and short-term consultants. The Chief of Party is responsible for achieving the expected results of the project and solving problems that may arise.


  • Advanced degree (minimum of a Master’s degree required) in relevant field
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of leadership experience in managing projects of a similar size and scope in an international development context
  • Technical expertise in gender, women’s empowerment, food security, agriculture, nutrition, and/or livelihoods
  • Proven ability to understand client needs, develop appropriate solutions, lead large teams, and manage complex programs
  • Experience in the technical sectors related to USAID Feed the Future, The U.S. Government Global Food Security Strategy, and/or the Bureau for Food Security preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Eligibility to work in US
