Across the previous cocoa seasons, GROW collaborated with local trading firms and cooperatives to establish a proof of concept for farmer engagement, cocoa aggregation and purchase, and improved trading relationships along the cocoa supply chain within Liberia. The model proved efficacious, particularly with respect to improving aggregated cocoa quality and yield, and establishing strong, transparent relationships between cooperatives, and their network of farmers.
In the past year, GROW has worked to facilitate a wider scale-up, adoption and replication of this approach by other cocoa traders and cooperatives. GROW has also linked cooperatives with local exporters and begun to attract international investors. In doing so, GROW is working with sector stakeholders to position Liberian cocoa producers and exporters for the premium cocoa market opportunity.
GROW seeks the service of a consultant or consulting firm to inform the programme of the specific opportunities of the premium cocoa markets in the EU and the USA, and guidance to Liberian firms in accessing these markets. The research will provide necessary context and information guiding decisions on investment promotion, industry governance and coordination, and positioning of Liberian private sector players. The research will also inform recommendations to guide a Liberian cocoa sector vision for the government, donor organisations, and private sector groups.
This role can be based remotely.
