Job Description

PATH is currently recruiting for a Commercialization Officer to support projects under the Devices and Tools program and contribute to the introduction and uptake of medical devices as well as vaccine and pharmaceutical product delivery system improvements that improve health. The Commercialization Officer will collaborate with other Commercialization Officers and Associates in the group and will undertake activities including the development and execution of strategies to increase availability and accessibility of PATH technologies at affordable pricing in low-resource settings.

The Devices and Tools Program at PATH develops, advances, and facilitates commercialization of health technologies for low-resource settings. PATH teams conduct collaborative research and development with universities, manufacturers, and other institutions to develop products that are appropriate and affordable for developing-country use. PATH’s goals in these collaborations are to achieve maximum sustainable public health benefit and to facilitate global technology access. One of PATH’s primary activities is the development, assessment/evaluation, and commercialization of health technologies and medical products for developing country use. PATH’s product teams conduct collaborative research and development with universities, manufacturers, and other institutions to develop products that are appropriate and affordable. PATH’s goal in these collaborations is to achieve maximum sustainable public health benefit by facilitating global technology access.

Responsibilities:

  • Serving as the commercialization member of one or more product development teams, coordinate, conduct, and oversee specialized support to develop business analysis and value propositions that engage key suppliers and buyers in the markets which may include cost analysis, willingness to pay analyses, defining expected market returns, and business case studies on proposed technologies.
  • Assess manufacturing landscapes and identify optimal production strategies for low-resource countries.
  • Perform business due diligence of pharmaceutical manufacturers and technology companies in low-resource countries.
  • Conduct primary research, either directly or indirectly through collaboration with PATH’s in-country staff, and secondary research in order to define target markets and criteria for successful product uptake and adoption.
  • Lead analysis efforts to understand competitive landscape, market size and segmentation, cost of goods sold, and identify stakeholders and their needs.
  • Develop product commercialization strategies in collaboration with local and international stakeholders, with a focus on ensuring increased availability and affordability.
  • Support agreement negotiations between PATH and various public- and private-sector partners.
  • Collaboratively engage with other commercialization staff and internal stakeholders to ensure knowledge sharing and development, and to ensure the successful completion of project objectives.
  • Up to 25% of travel.

Required skills and experience:

  • An MBA (or equivalent degree) plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience in marketing, product management, agreement negotiation, and/or commercialization strategy development especially for developing country markets.
  • Medical device, pharmaceutical, and/or biological industry experience highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or other technical field a plus.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
