This is a newly created role and will be responsible for engaging city stakeholders on a wide range of issues and especially through the C/Can’s City Engagement Process Framework (CEPF). You will be partnering with various internal and external stakeholders with a view to optimising the city engagement user experience.

The successful candidate will be a creative and experienced self-starter with a strategic approach to communications, who is keen to work in a fast-paced, agile environment and is passionate about innovation and global health.

She/he will need to be flexible and reactive to last minute requests, as well as managing longer term deadlines. This person will be able to work remotely with travel as required.

Key Responsibilities

The Communications & Engagement Manager responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Define CEPF’s engagement and communication requirements and deliver the required campaigns across the C/Can network, supporting other efforts to increase city engagement.
  • Team up with the City Network Manager Manager and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team to review and develop communication milestones of the C/Can’s CEPF, improve processes and continuously improve engagement satisfaction and impact.
  • Work closely with Regional Directors, City Managers, City Network Manager and other colleagues to ensure there is good coordination of internal and external city engagement and involvement activities.
  • Work closely with city teams and communications focal points to ensure localised and tailored communications are sequenced alongside corporate campaigns, and that the messages create one narrative for all our cities.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve the engagement of our cities, and in response to this, mobilise and deliver effective and creative engagement and communication campaigns, projects and activities that improve their engagement
  • Partner with other units to create and deliver content plans across the CEPF.
  • Develop and coordinate strategic communication partnerships with key stakeholders to elicit support for and maximize impact of the C/Can’s Engagement Process.
  • Provide guidance and tools to managers and senior leadership as to best practices in engagement strategies to consolidate and/or elevate C/Can’s city satisfaction and engagement.
  • Work closely with the communications team to ensure the appropriate channels are used to best engage our cities.
  • Work directly with content owners to identify deliverables and deadlines, communicate expectations, and ensure results
  • Use data and insights to better understand the impact of our engagement activities to continually improve the quality of our communications.

Selection Criteria

Required competences

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in communications (engagement) is required.
  • Developing communications plans, engagement and involvement activities (online and face to face) including strategy, goals, budget and tactics.
  • Strong project management skills and experience, including managing internal stakeholders and multiple projects at once.
  • Experience working with internationally distributed teams and/or on programs/projects.
  • Experience leading and interacting with cross-functional teams.
  • Great multitasker and capable of simultaneously managing multiple projects with different deadlines.
  • Healthcare or medical background preferred, but not required.
  • Extensive writing and editing experience.
  • Native English and Spanish is required (or have the equivalent fluency). Knowledge of French is an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet short deadlines as well as long term project milestones.
  • Ability to turn complex and sometimes technical information into engaging content.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach team members in a results oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic business environment.
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace’s (formerly G Suite), Mailchimp, Photoshop and WordPress.
  • Experience in Email Marketing (Mailchimp).
