Counterpart International is seeking a full-time Community Development Technical Advisor to manage and advise community economic development programs. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of a multimillion dollar USAID program. The candidate should have strong technical depth and expertise in community-based natural resource management, community-led rural development, community-based tourism, ecosystem-based livelihood opportunities, and microenterprise development. Prior professional experience in human-wildlife conflict management would be an asset.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Community Development Technical Advisor will serve as Counterpart’s head representative in Uganda. He/she will lead and oversee the implementation and execution of Counterpart’s programming over five geographic regions focusing primarily on community-based tourism and natural resource management.
- The Advisor will be called upon to broker and closely manage working partnerships; oversee trainings to ensure quality and appropriateness of approach; monitor program activities vis-à-vis indicated targets and contribute to programmatic reporting.
- This is an anticipated one year assignment, during which the Advisor will work closely with a locally-hired Community Development Specialist to oversee program start-up, familiarize him/her with USAID/Counterpart policies and procedures and develop his/her capacity to ensure smooth continuation of program management throughout the subsequent duration of the program.
- Strong management, leadership and team building skills required.
- Master’s degree in business, tourism, economics, agriculture/rural development, international development or other related field;
- Minimum of ten years previous work experience in community economic development programs, including 4+ in an international, cross-cultural context;
- Technical background and experience in community-led rural development, livelihoods, microenterprise development, and community-based natural resource management
- Familiarity and experience managing/implementing USAID-funded programs
- Familiarity with East Africa in general and Uganda specifically.
- Advanced computer skills, especially advanced use of MS Office.
