IBTCI is currently implementing a USAID-funded Somalia Program Support Services (SPSS) that covers five years, from 2014-2019. The primary goal of SPSS is to provide ongoing monitoring, verification, and evaluation support to USAID/Somalia that informs programming through delivery of timely qualitative, quantitative, and analytical information to assist USAID in meeting its short, medium, and long-term monitoring objectives in Somalia.

As part of the monitoring and verification functions, SPSS is planning to conduct monitoring and verification of approximately 375 site visits being implemented by USAID implementing partners in Somalia from October 1, 2018 to July 31, 2019. A large volume of reports is expected to be developed for the site visits. For this exercise, SPSS is seeking the services of a qualified and experienced consultant to provide copy-editing and proofreading support.

Using your copy-editing and subject matter skills, perform tasks on specific task orders and/or contracts. Tasks could include, but not be limited to:

Scope of Work:
  • Copy-edit monitoring, verification and reporting reports;
  • Edit all assigned reports for clarity, consistency, accuracy, format, correct spelling, punctuation and grammar;
  • When necessary, rewrite sections of text and question report writers when unsure of content, context and intent; and
  • Other duties as assigned

Serve in the above consultant capacity to support the IBTCI technical practices of Crisis, Conflict & Governance, Agriculture & Food Security & Economic, Education & Growth and Global Health and/or Business Development divisions.

This position does not authorize/require the consultant to directly communicate with IBTCI clients.
This position does not authorize/require the consultant to have decision making authority on final work product.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with USAID branding and marking guidelines.
  • Strict attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a team.

Minimum Requirements:
  • At least three years of experience in a copy-editor role.
  • Strong writing, editing, and copy-editing skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Oral and written fluency in English required.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, marketing or a related field.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Travel: Travel is not required.
