Job Description

Corporate Counsel reports to the Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. The Corporate Counsel provides legal advice to the company on government contract law and international compliance matters. This position requires extensive interaction with all levels of Blumont staff and vendors.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide legal advice with regard to government procurement and ensure on-going compliance with applicable federal, state and international laws.
  • Provide legal advice on managing and administering government contracts, grants, cooperative agreements, international contracts, commercial contracts, and non-disclosure agreements/teaming agreements.
  • Troubleshoot problems and resolve customer requests.
  • Support the General Counsel, on an as needed basis, on government contracts, international law matters, intellectual property, and other legal matters.
  • Perform special projects at the request of the General Counsel.
  • Plan, organize, and implement requested projects; coordinate with necessary staff to verify project time-lines and schedules. Independently seek out relevant information and screen for applicability to assigned projects.
  • Maintain knowledge of changes in the procurement laws and industry trends, and international trade compliance laws and regulations.
  • Attend department, project and team meetings.
  • Generates reports for internal meetings.
  • Maintains legal files and keeps all matters updated and current.
  • Act as liaison between outside counsel and headquarters legal department.
  • Research and support activities to assist General Counsel.
  • Uses PowerPoint, MS Word, Excel, and other programs in preparation of correspondence, documents and presentations; and efficiently creates charts, graphs, tables, and text slides.
  • Responsible for formatting consistency and accuracy on time-sensitive, high-profile documents.
  • Establishes and maintains filing systems; classifies sorts, and files correspondence, records, media clips and other documents.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • LL.B. or J.D. degree from a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association
  • Either admitted to the Virginia bar or otherwise authorized to practice law in Virginia as in-house counsel.
  • At least three years of distinguished experience, at a law firm and/or in-house environment, in contracts, subcontracts and procurement law (government and/or commercial sectors), and international trade compliance.
  • Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations and other bodies of law affecting government contracts.
  • Experience with corporate licensing and registration requirements in foreign (non U.S.) jurisdictions is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to compose and write legal documents, contracts, proposals, position papers, and complex business correspondence.
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills. Ability to interact with senior personnel involved in policy, technical, operational, and program management assignments in a professional manner and with a professional demeanor essential.
  • Able to build and maintain professional relationships with peers.
  • Able to contribute to a professional work environment by demonstrating integrity, promoting teamwork, and fostering positive communication.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize complex assignments little supervision.
  • Able to maintain familiarity with current Blumont policies and procedures.
  • Able to maintain absolute confidentiality in all business matters required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel may be required, possibly including weekends.
