Context of the Assignment
The handicrafts sector has been identified as an important subsector of tourism because of the sector’s ability to create employment for many artisans. Earlier this year PEPZ commissioned an external consultant to conduct an assessment to look at a broad cross section of the artisanal crafts value chain to evaluate market opportunities within the tourism sector as well as regional and international markets. The focus sub-sectors of this assessment included textiles and textile products, basketry, jewelry, wood products, and recycled products.
The consultant’s final report revealed that Zambia has great potential in handicrafts and therefore could potentially benefit tremendously from this market driven trend.
Following this initial assessment and recommendations PEPZ would like to commission an expert to further develop and implement a strategy for a successful handicraft development programme for Zambia that focuses on product development and market linkages.
Please refer to the attached TOR for further informatroin regardig the overall responsibilities for the position, required qualifications and application process.
