We are seeking a D.C.-based Director of Business Development The Director serves as a business development resource within the Inclusive Market Systems (IMS) division. S/he helps division staff identify and track opportunities through the entire BD process from opportunity identification to proposal submission. S/he will manage proposal capture or preparation, serve as lead/contributing writer, support development and execution of business development strategies and be engaged otherwise in the design and delivery of competitive proposals.
Primary activities include but are not limited to: engage with the IMS portfolio of new business opportunities based on the demands and priorities of the proposal processes and proposal team needs; manage proposal teams and contribute to the technical design process for multiple bids; participate as member of teams conducting in-country reconnaissance of new project opportunities and recruiting candidates for proposed staff positions; research, analyze, and plan for new funding opportunities, competitive intelligence, and ACDI/VOCA’s competitive positioning on a continuous basis within the marketplace in collaboration with staff in multiple divisions; support effective internal communication and information management processes to ensure access and use of business development information by relevant Headquarters and field-based stakeholders; in collaboration with the Business Development Group (BDG), provide business development skill and capacity to guide and/or lead IMS proposal teams in opportunity analysis, capture planning, proposal preparation, proposal review, and after action review; and in collaboration with BDG, support IMS proposal teams to manage proposal processes to ensure timely submission of high quality.
In addition, the Director of Business Development will support IMS proposal teams in the identification of international partners and negotiation of ACDI/VOCA’s role on proposal consortia, ensuring a competitive position for ACDI/VOCA’s that adheres to organizational best practices and strategic direction. This person will contribute to proposal efforts as Lead Writer on strategic bids or as contributing writer by providing extensive technical content. In collaboration with BDG, the Director will contribute to the development and dissemination of standardized business development materials (learning resources, guidelines, tools and templates, and online information) and build capacity of IMS staff on their application. This position will provide proactive, timely ongoing support and advice to IMS proposal teams during proposal development, and collaborate with IMS, Technical Learning & Application, BDG, and Resilience & Growth staff to develop, implement, and monitor country program resource capture strategies.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or higher in International Development, Agriculture, Finance, Economics or other relevant field. Minimum of six years’ experience, including overseas work, in international development or related field. Demonstrated excellence in oral, written and reading comprehension abilities. Experience with multi-media applications, Power Point and other Microsoft programs. Fluency in English required; additional French and/or Spanish language skills desired Ability and willingness to travel to underdeveloped countries.
