Duties and Responsibilities
The internship with the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (OHRLLS):
- Is for two months, with a possible extension up to six months, depending on departmental needs
- Is unpaid and primarily designed to be in person and full-time at the New York duty station
- May offer flexible work arrangements (hybrid or remote) depending on the candidate’s situation, including temporary arrangements to facilitate G-4 visa processing
- Involves working five days a week (35 hours), under the supervision of a staff member
Daily responsibilities may vary based on the intern’s background, assigned office, and the internship period, and may include:
- Drafting and preparing official documents
- Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings
- Conducting document, legal, and internet research
- Assisting during conferences
- Contributing to web presentations
- Evaluating projects
- Compiling statistics
- Conducting media analysis
- Assisting with speechwriting
Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following academic criteria at the time of application:
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (Master’s degree or equivalent)
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
Additional requirements:
- Must be computer literate in standard software applications
- No prior professional experience is required
- Training, coursework, or skills should be relevant to the work of the United Nations
- Must be pursuing or have completed studies in a field closely related to the internship

Languages
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required
- Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish)
Additional Information: Intern-Specific Details
- Internships are unpaid; travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution
- Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the host country may need to obtain appropriate visa and work authorization
- Successful candidates are expected to discuss visa requirements before accepting the offer
