Duties and Responsibilities
The internship with the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (OHRLLS):

  • Is for two months, with a possible extension up to six months, depending on departmental needs
  • Is unpaid and primarily designed to be in person and full-time at the New York duty station
  • May offer flexible work arrangements (hybrid or remote) depending on the candidate’s situation, including temporary arrangements to facilitate G-4 visa processing
  • Involves working five days a week (35 hours), under the supervision of a staff member

Daily responsibilities may vary based on the intern’s background, assigned office, and the internship period, and may include:

  • Drafting and preparing official documents
  • Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings
  • Conducting document, legal, and internet research
  • Assisting during conferences
  • Contributing to web presentations
  • Evaluating projects
  • Compiling statistics
  • Conducting media analysis
  • Assisting with speechwriting

Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following academic criteria at the time of application:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (Master’s degree or equivalent)
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent)

Additional requirements:

  • Must be computer literate in standard software applications
  • No prior professional experience is required
  • Training, coursework, or skills should be relevant to the work of the United Nations
  • Must be pursuing or have completed studies in a field closely related to the internship

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish)
