Expression Of Interest - Senior Analyst

We are currently seeking expressions of interest for a Senior Analyst to apply high-level expertise to provide a range of analytical and technical skills to support the delivery of our ClimateWorks International Program. The term of the consulting contract is 3 months, with a potential view to extending this.

ClimateWorks Australia is an expert, independent adviser, acting as a bridge between research and action, to enable new approaches and solutions that enable end to end solutions to climate change and accelerate the transition to net zero emissions by 2050. Our collaborative approach encompasses a thorough understanding of the constraints of governments and the practical needs of the business. We seek to support similar work in the Pacific and South-East Asia through our ‘Pathways to Prosperity’ program, focusing on up to 10 developing countries across Southeast Asia and the Pacific to develop and implement long-term net zero emissions development pathways. Developed by ClimateWorks Australia and delivered through a partnership approach, the program will strengthen the capacity of key stakeholders in the public, private, civil society and research sectors to develop and implement long-term, lowest emissions development strategies and sectoral transformation road-maps.

The Senior Analyst will be responsible for designing and developing an innovative, agenda-setting data management and analysis framework, with particular relevance to the whole of economy and subnational low emissions development planning approaches. Through providing technical expertise in the areas of economic and financial cost-benefit analysis, you will oversee the development and/or adaptation of a user-friendly, open-source online tool capable of calculating decarbonisation pathway scenarios and producing indicators to demonstrate impact on a range of economic, environmental and social variables. The tool will be developed in line with global best practice and be guided by input from global experts and national stakeholders, to account for the variable operational challenges, stakeholder needs and data quality likely to be experienced in developing countries.

The Senior Analyst will, therefore, possess strong stakeholder management and communication skills, and be expected to work closely with national stakeholders to develop and deliver targeted capacity building programs with country technical teams, to mentor tool users and to provide quality assurance of modeling outputs. In addition, the Senior Analyst will provide iterative program quality assurance and regular feedback to program reports and publications, to contribute to the global and national discourse

As the successful Senior Analyst, you will be required to:

  1. Lead delivery of strategic low emissions development research and data analysis projects as required, by developing and implementing frameworks and methodologies, developing hypotheses based on stakeholder needs and interests, conduct data analysis and modelling and actively participate in quality assurance for both inputs and outputs of data analysis for own work as well as other project partners work when relevant.

  2. Lead the development of a technical capacity building strategy for the international program, based on needs assessment of target stakeholders, and evaluation of various education modalities (e.g. MOOCs, face to face delivery etc). Deliver capacity building activities as required.

  3. Lead an evaluation of existing tools to scope and develop net zero GHG emissions pathways or Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) interactions, and test findings in consultation with key stakeholder groups to understand end-user needs, learning preferences and capabilities.

Your experience with inter-disciplinary work and a profound interest in understanding and addressing complex climate and sustainable development challenges, together with your demonstrated ability to lead project work and substantial analytical experience will set you up for success in this role.

If this sounds like an opportunity for you then we would like to hear from you, international applications welcome. Please send us the following documentation as part of your application:
