The Finance Assistant role is responsible mainly for supporting both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable within the HSOT project for DFID and SU as the clients.

The Humanitarian and Stabilisation Operations Team provides the Department for International Development with humanitarian services and the UK Government’s Stabilisation Unit with stabilisation support. HSOT works with DFID to lead the UK Government’s response to humanitarian disasters in cooperation with the United Nations, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, non-governmental organisations and governments of disaster-affected countries.

Accounts Payable
* Maintain and regularly update the vendor master list
* Check invoices to ensure they have all the relevant information and are coded correctly
* Validate time and expenses submitted through time management system (Deploy Adviser); including verification that the right project categorisations are used and ensure rates are correct in the financial management system (Cost Point).
* Process and post Accounts Payable vouchers
* Process expense claims and credit card statements

Accounts Receivable
* Produce final invoices for the client in line with the invoice posting in the system
* Ensure supporting schedules and accurate data are available to back up invoicing
* Dealing with billing queries, liaise with internal and external stakeholders
* Follow up on debt collection and work through any queries to ensure that the debt is adjusted where necessary and is collectable.
* Update debt collection activities on aged debtor master file.

Other Responsibilities
* Produce final invoices for the client in line with the invoice posting in the system

Key competencies and professional expertise required
* Good knowledge of accounting policies and procedures.
* Strong accounting, business and administration skills.
* Ability to analyse financial data and prepare financial reports.
* High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
* Able to work under pressure, multitask and prioritise own workload
* Takes personal responsibility for resolve queries and issues
* High standard of written and verbal communication skills in English. Excellent Microsoft Office Skills - Excel Modelling experience is preferred.
* Strong work ethic
