Job Description

SPANA works with just roughly 20 partners across Africa, Asia and Central America.


Given the complexity and scale of the charity’s operations, it is essential to ensure that SPANA funds are utilised effectively, transparently, and in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Objectives and Activities

The primary objective of this forensic audit is to conduct a thorough examination of the programme operations and financial management of SPANA’s 4 key Partners (Mali, Mauritania, Tunisia and Morocco). The audit will aim to:

  • Provide assurance that SPANA funds are used in line with its charitable objectives and that there is the right level of oversight.
  • Identify any potential fraud, corruption, and financial mismanagement.
  • Ensure compliance with legal obligations and internal policies/controls.
  • Assess the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of programme delivery.
  • Identify any potential high risks.
  • Provide recommendations to strengthen financial and operational controls

Qualifications/Profile of the Forensic Auditor

The forensic auditor must meet the following qualifications:

  • Professional certification in accounting and/or auditing (ACCA, ACA, IIA).
  • Extensive experience in forensic auditing, particularly in the nonprofit sector/INGO’s.
  • Knowledge of international accounting standards and practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail - apply special skills in accounting, auditing finance, quantitative methods, certain areas of the law, research, and investigative skills, to collect, analyse and evaluate evidential matter, and to interpret
    and communicate findings.
  • Ability to produce clear and concise reports.
  • Experience with financial and operational audits of medium to large-scale international programmes is highly desirable.
  • Languages required: fluent verbal/written English and French (Arabic not essential but good to have).

Timeframe

Work to commence August 2024 (or earliest) and be completed by end of October 2024. A detailed timeline should be included as part of the Inception Report.

Consultancy rate

Please provide your day rate in your application. Business travel expenses (flights, accommodation etc) will be reimbursed separately in accordance with SPANA’s expense policy.
