Job Description
Summary:
The Vital Voices Network of over 18,000 women changemakers across 186 countries is our organization’s greatest asset. Vital Voices is seeking a Director, GBV Advocacy for the Vital Voices team to contribute to developing and strengthening community partnerships, department strategy and management, as well as issue area advocacy and training. Reporting to the VP, Issue Advocacy, the Director of GBV Advocacy will develop and implement strategies to support the Vital Voices network to catalyze our impact globally. The Director of GBV Advocacy will work in close collaboration with internal teams to facilitate the efficient delivery of issue-area fellowships, state department funded programs and corporate advisories through various matrix teams while supporting the cultivation of internal and external partnerships.

- Team Management: Support the VP, Issue Advocacy in essential team management functions, including support for high-level organizational requests, oversight of advancing departmental goals and milestones, as well as cultivation of a positive team culture that supports and fosters professional development and growth.
- Subject Matter Expertise & Advocacy: Utilize existing knowledge and experience on GBV and its intersections with WPS, climate and economic justice, strengthened by research and monitoring of the UN SDG issue area and subject matter discussions and developments to inform decision-making, program strategy, project curricula, community engagement practices, and broader advocacy efforts including representation at panel and media events, as needed. Moreover, maintain and enhance ties with pro bono and other consultants to enhance the inclusion and integration of best practice into trainings programs.
- Facilitation and Training: Design and implement training curricula for multi-sector stakeholders rooted in Adult Learning Principles and contextualized to different global regions and/or countries, as needed. Engage, oversee, and collaborate with consultants (pro bono or otherwise) as needed to infuse programs with additional current and contextual issue area expertise.
- Advocacy Strategy: Create and implement advocacy strategies that integrates staff, fellows, program alumni, allies, partners and the Vital Voices Community Hub. Create strategy for engaging and communicating with the Vital Voices Fellows and alumni at the intersection of key community collaborations through coordination with other staff leading fellowship programs and networks. Take initiative to develop and strengthen ties in the DC/DMV area to bridge local, national, and global engagement in policy and programming. This may be through Statements of Work (SOWs), Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), grants, programs, events, etc. Participate in local, national, and global coalitions to help amplify VV network’s voice and influence.
- Community Partnership Communications & Content: Act as a liaison between the Vital Voices and its local and global networks in order to bolster its presence and contributions to local, national, and global advocacy efforts. This includes coordination with multi-sector stakeholders in the gender and GBV field including corporations, governments, civil society organizations, etc. The Director will often coordinate closely with communications and networks team members as well as programmatic staff in order to inform and enhance partnerships and policy.
- Agreement & Reporting Oversight: Oversee the strengthening and sustainability of partnerships through the design and facilitation of private, public, and pro bono awards and agreements that help catalyze the work of the VV network globally. In this capacity, they will liaise with funders, communicate internally to identify nominations for awards, work with other team members to select recipients for awards, and oversee team efforts to coordinate with awardees as well as process agreements and reporting.
- Program & Events Strategy: As needed, oversee the planning and execution of key Issue Advocacy events and programming, in conjunction with Director, Networks and other VV staff, to ensure VV leaders are integrated and represented in the anti-GBV space.
- DE&I: Model the Vital Voices commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to disrupt and evolve systems and behaviors that negatively impact women and BIPOC employees and network. Ensure that this commitment is integrated in our work both internally and externally.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in international relations, gender studies, or a related field, 7+ years of relevant work experience required, OR Graduate degree in in international relations, gender studies, law, policy, or a related field, 5+ years of work experience.
REQUIRED;
- Strong demonstrated experience in global women’s issues, GBV, human rights, preferred.
- Strong soft skills and relationship-building experience both online and in-person
- Excellent oral and written communications skills in English. Additional proficiency in at least one other language, preferably Spanish or French, preferred.
- Strong public speaking, training, and facilitation skills.
- Strong project and team management skills. In particular, experience with collaborative decision-making and coordinating across multiple teams or departments to implement goals.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, swiftly shift priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, sometimes under difficult or challenging circumstances.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and self-awareness.
- Strong computer skills including MS Office applications (esp. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), social networking tools, and database software (i.e., Salesforce).
This position is a full-time, exempt position based in Washington, DC. If and when it is safe to travel, domestic and international travel up to 20% may be required for the position.
