Project/Proposal Summary:

The anticipated Livestock Production for Improved Nutrition Program in Bangladesh is a five-year agriculture, food security and nutrition program that will be implemented in three regions, Dhaka, Khulna and Barisal of southwest Bangladesh. The project will focus on livestock production, improved livestock management and the increased utilization of livestock products to improve dietary diversity and nutrition outcomes for households in the Feed the Future Zone of Influence (ZOI). The position will be based in Dhaka with frequent travel to the ZOI.

Position Summary:

The Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Manager will be responsible for the development and oversight of related tasks to ensure inclusion of vulnerable populations, including geographically marginalized smallholder farmers, women and youth, in the Livestock Production for Improved Nutrition program. This role will develop and implement a robust inclusion strategy that meets the requirements and USAID and Land O’Lakes Venture37 policies, including developing a gender empowerment strategy, activity plan, youth inclusion strategy and contributing to a strong learning agenda. The Inclusion Manager will also take an active role in adaptive management through active participation in stakeholder, learning and work planning meetings. The position will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh with frequent travel to the ZOI.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of the GESI activity plan and learning agenda and update as necessary throughout the life of the project
  • Provide input on GESI deliverables, undertaking GESI assignments and helping field staff apply good GESI practices
  • Identify knowledge gaps and training needs and design training and capacity building opportunities to ensure these needs are met.
  • Lead gender and social inclusion analysis for the project;
  • Regularly contribute to data collection processes for inclusion indicators, perform data quality assessments, and adjust as needed;
  • Undertake regular visits to the field to support implementation of the strategy and to identify where adaptations and improvements might be needed;
  • Provide regular updates on project progress against key metrics to the Chief of Party for inclusion in donor reports, work planning and learning events
  • Lead the regular sharing and learning with program staff and partners.
  • Assist project staff to use project data to report and disseminate evidence of project work to the wider community, USAID, Land O’Lakes Venture37, and other external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the highest degree of integrity throughout all activities, and raise any concerns with implementation quality immediately with the Chief of Party;

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public health, agribusiness, international development, gender studies, communications, economics, or other relevant field.
  • A minimum of four (4) years designing and implementing women and youth integration and empowerment systems, specific to the roles above. Experience with agriculture projects preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills training and motivating diverse teams.
  • Experienced at implementing activities for integrating nutrition sensitive approaches into market development activities.
  • Demonstrated experience adapting project implementation and activities to achieve objectives and targets as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across projects, be flexible, and creative and successfully lead an intercultural team in development and post-conflict contexts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, instilling trust and confidence.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and oral presentation skills.
  • Fluency in oral and written English and Bangla.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s or other advanced degree in related field
  • Experience in social marketing and SBCC to improve nutrition related behaviors of small holder livestock producers.
  • Experience with nutrition and SBCC related data and USAID Feed the Future indicators.
