Position: Global Finance Manager – Systems and Processes

Location: London based with 40% international travel to RI operations

Reports to: European Controller

Position Summary:

As part of overall Global Finance team, your role is to support country-office operations, by providing this technical assistance to field programs in relation to financial processes & procedures. You will need to regularly visit field offices in various countries on a temporary basis. Bringing together key finance business processes at country level are established to support the global finance systems.

Providing direction to the Regional Finance Managers and Country Finance Managers as well as supporting Regional and Country Directors where required in monthly reviews, identifying of areas for operational improvements. Developing tailored training for country staff, supporting the annual budget process, and periodic analysis of operations performance.

This position requires international travel to fragile countries and requires a high amount of flexibility.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Control and development of global systems and processes

  • Work with Country and Regional teams to ensure proper internal controls are in place and operating effectively in accordance with local company standards and government, donor regulations in all country offices.
  • Develop processes for balance sheet accounts across the organisation.
  • Reconcile country office balance sheet accounts in NetSuite.
  • Develop and implement monthly closing and reporting schedules for Regional Finance teams in the beginning of the fiscal year and ensure such schedules are successfully met during the year.
  • Ensure adequate documentation for transactions incurred in field offices.
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Business Transformation to develop a shared services method for field services.
  • Develop reports on net worth and capital positions
  • Oversee recording and reporting of field transactions to ensure compliance with the company’s established policies and procedures

Capacity building and global knowledge sharing

  • Provide financial and accounting guidance and train Country Finance Managers.
  • Identify potential field finance issues, research, and propose solutions.
  • Support field finance special projects for process improvements or cost savings.

Global Assurance and Audit Management

  • Work with the RI global assurance team and follow up on assurance findings
  • Ensure country sites have adequate systems to ensure ‘audit ready records’ for donor and statutory audits.
  • Coordinate field samples support for HQ entity audits
  • Provide support to program audits and field financial reviews

Donor Funds Management

  • Participate in donor collection procedure
  • Support the development and implementation of donor billing processes

Global Finance Projects

  • Provide ad hoc reports and duties as requested.
  • Assist with the supervision of accounting for RI-France as required.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bi-Lingual – English and French (would be an advantage but not critical)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance and/or a related discipline
  • Progressive NGO accounting experience in an international development environment
  • Detailed knowledge of fund accounting, procurement and financial management of USAID and UN cooperative agreements;
  • Knowledge of US Government, European Union, and United Nations donor reporting regulations highly desirable;
  • Highly reliable and flexible approach to professional responsibilities: the ability to change course, yet remain focused;
  • Strong IT experience with cloud-based accounting platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and especially Excel
  • Strong and proven organisational skills in managing finance systems globally
  • Possess extensive and current knowledge of cutting-edge principles and practices associated with accounting, cost management, percentage of completion accounting, foreign exchange, finance, systems and related systems.
  • Excellent coaching skills and the ability to build the capacity of field-based finance staff
  • Highly developed communication skills and the ability to work effectively across culture
  • Skilled in remote management and working across time zones.
