General Purpose: On behalf of the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Liberia, YSM will be recruiting a Director of Hospital Management as part of an interdisciplinary collaboration to improve health service delivery, with an emphasis on effective recovery after the recent Ebola outbreak and preparedness for future public health emergencies. The Director of Hospital Management will work under the supervision of the Project Director and Faculty Director (based in New Haven), and in close collaboration with the MOH and consortium coordinators.
The Director of Hospital Management will be responsible for leading the in-country design, start-up, and implementation of the health management program. A cadre of skilled health managers will be essential to Liberia’s health system recovery and to the development of a robust health system that can respond effectively to future public health emergencies. This position will be a long-term commitment, minimum of 1 year, to live in Monrovia, Liberia, based within JFK Memorial Medical Center (JFKMMC) and working closely with MOH and Health Workforce Program (HWP) leadership.
Will manage a team of two full-time staff to support assessment and strengthening of management capacity across Liberia’s health system, with a particular focus on hospitals identified by the MOH, as well as development and implementation of a certificate training program in health management, and cultivation and expansion of this program in alignment with the MOH vision and requests.
Oversee work to develop training programs while also supporting the deployment of health management associates to provide direct mentorship and capacity building at identified hospitals and health facilities, as needed.
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrate ability developing curriculum, leading academic programs, and development including training instructors.
- Ability to effectively anticipate, identify and solve complex problems in new working environments.
- Ability to effectively communicate information and data in written and verbal form to course participants, senior management, government officials and the public.
- Ability to interpret and apply instructions in diverse settings and to support organizational change and develop management capability of others.
- Preferred Education and Experience: Masters degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health or a related field. Demonstrated experience (10-15) years in hospital management and leadership in low-resource settings. English proficiency required.
