Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
HIAS seeks an Institutional Development Specialist to help produce high quality concept notes, proposals and reports for its U.S. programs, including 1) resettlement and integration and 2) legal and asylum services. S/he will also help identify and develop new and existing partnerships with private, corporate and Jewish funders. She/he reports directly to the Manager, Institutional Development and Partnerships, and works closely with the Associate Vice President, Institutional Development and Strategy, to support and expand national partnerships with foundations, corporations and other new funding prospects for HIAS.
A strong focus of this position is the expansion of national and regional funding opportunities for HIAS and our U.S. affiliate network in the areas of 1) refugee resettlement, 2) social and economic inclusion, and 3) legal and wraparound services. This position works closely with the U.S. programs teams, maintaining regular engagement with and knowledge of programs. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated and experienced professional with excellent skills in writing, project management, and communications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
EXTERNAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports the development of high-quality proposals, concept notes and other materials for institutional funders, working closely with the programs and finance teams on project design, ensuring clarity, consistency and a compelling case for funding, and adhering to donor/HIAS guidelines and policies.
- Synthesizes HIAS’ U.S. programs and interventions into clear, compelling presentations, proposals, and reports for current and new donors.
- Conducts outreach to and participates in meetings with new and potential donors, especially foundations and corporations, to help cultivate strong relationships and identify new funding opportunities.
- Conducts research and maintains ongoing familiarity of specific funding and partnership opportunities with donors and corporations that align with HIAS’ priorities in U.S. resettlement, integration, asylum and legal services.
- Identifies opportunities for and supports the development of strategic communications (e.g., blogposts, social media, articles, webinars, etc.) to increase the profile and visibility of HIAS’ U.S. programs and partnerships.
INTERNAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates closely with the development, programs and finance teams to develop proposals and budgets for funding opportunities; this includes clear internal communication on proposal and reporting deadlines, guidelines and policies to programs and finance staff.
- Supports the development of clear and strongly written proposals, working with U.S. programs staff to ensure quality and winning submissions.
- Conducts research to identify new funding and partnership opportunities and develops engagement strategies for HIAS nationally and select partners in the affiliate network.
- Develops and implements comprehensive outreach, solicitation and collaboration strategies for new donors and partners.
- Conducts research to help cultivate relationships with foundations, corporations and other major funding prospects to broaden HIAS’ networks and match donor interests with HIAS’ program areas.
- Updates HIAS’ internal grants databases and tracking systems to ensure internal coordination and the timely submission of proposals and reports.
- Ensures quality information management related to grants by overseeing the regular maintenance of grant files, reporting calendars, and updating HIAS’ internal records.
- Monitors donor and philanthropic trends across the U.S., as well as relevant grant-making rules and regulations for changes and developments.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
