Landscape Design Consultancy, Iraq Genocide Recovery and Persecution Response – Learning and Pilots (GRPR L&P), Iraq

Project Summary:

The purpose of this activity is to create safe, accessible, welcoming, and social public spaces for women, girls, and their families in the Ninewa Plains of Iraq. It is part of a broader effort to explore more effective and integrated approaches to aiding survivors and victims of gender-based violence (GBV), through assessments of current activities, the design of pilot projects testing improved interventions, and learning, sharing, and “scaling up” of promising approaches. Activities are focused on communities in the Ninewa Plains.

Position Summary:

Management Systems International (MSI) is seeking a landscape architect to provide consultancy services on an as-needed basis. This would likely include landscape designs, plans, and budgetary estimates to guide the rehabilitation of public spaces in Tel Uskof, Sheikhan, and Qaraqosh in Iraq. Spaces will include parks and school yards. The goal of the rehabilitations is to make the public spaces more accessible, inviting, safe, and conducive to social interaction for women and their families. The design process should include site visits with MSI, and participation in a focus group with local women to ensure the above criteria are met (likely both site visits and consultations will be conducted remotely due to Covid-19). The views expressed in these consultations will then be incorporated into designs where possible.

Responsibilities:

· Provide landscape designs, plans, and cost estimates as needed

· Willingness to conduct site visits to Sheikhan and Tel Uskof (likely conducted remotely via video, pending COVID-19 conditions)

· Participate in focus groups with women (likely conducted remotely via video, pending COVID-19 conditions)

· Provide basic activity reports to document work

Qualifications:

· BA in landscape architecture or relevant field is preferred

· Four years of relevant experience preferred

· Knowledge of Iraqi climate, plants, and landscaping conditions preferred

· Strong command of Arabic and English
