Job Description

Summary

Under the supervision of the General Counsel, this role will work with our Legal team and across the global Save the Children movement, with responsibility for providing advice on the legal aspects of a comprehensive reorganization of our international programming activity delivery.

You will engage at all levels of the organization to advise on a range of complex legal issues and risks arising from the reorganization, ranging from supporting the creation and establishment of local offices in select countries where Save the Children operates, to working with senior stakeholders in the US and globally on legal implications arising from a global reorganization. You will also coordinate legal advice from various law firms on domestic and foreign law issues arising from these efforts.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Advising on Save the Children’s reorganization by delivering high quality and professional advice and support on a diverse range of legal issues relating to the reorganization including, but not limited to:

  • Coordinating with stakeholders across the global Save the Children movement and outside counsel, particularly in foreign jurisdictions, to support the creation and establishment of local Save the Children offices
  • Providing legal advice relating to the transfer of assets, liabilities, and employees between legal entities in the Save the Children movement.
  • Serving as primary legal focal point, with the support of outside counsel as necessary, on questions relating to a number of functions relating to the reorganization (e.g., HR regarding people implications of a reorganization, IT regarding potential data protection implications, etc.) and providing legal guidance as necessary
  • Reviewing and revising as necessary Save the Children’s own internal framework and movement-wide agreements
  • Engaging and advising senior stakeholders on various other legal matters and risks arising from the reorganization

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate, and a current member of a bar with a valid license to practice law in a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, plus at least four (4) years of relevant experience, two (2) of which must be in the practice of law within a law firm, government agency, or in-house legal department
  • Demonstrated understanding of the international NGO operating environment, including compliance with donor requirements, particularly US Government requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify legal issues and exposures and develop and articulate appropriate legal solutions
  • Proven research and negotiating skills,
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate successfully with individuals and teams at all levels, both internal and external
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging

Preferred Qualifications

  • International work or volunteer experience related to humanitarian or development assistance.
  • Previous experience with US Government grants and cooperative agreements generally, and USG global health funding in particular.
  • Previous experience with registration issues for international NGOs.
