Job Description

Expected Duration

  • 3 months: 15 September – 14 December 2025

Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will support the Dynamic Knowledge and Library (DK-Library) Team in delivering high-quality information and knowledge services related to human rights and the work of the United Nations. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development of the Human Rights Knowledge Gateway platform and contributing to research work related to thematic knowledge hubs.
  • Assisting in the development of content and resources for the new OHCHR intranet and knowledge hub.
  • Supporting the production of knowledge sharing materials and activities, such as:
    • Videos and tutorials
    • Website editing and library guides
    • Communication campaigns
    • Knowledge retention and dissemination initiatives
  • Assisting with library functions, including:
    • Responding to research and reference queries
    • Cataloguing and indexing
    • Digitization and data management
    • Collection development
  • Supporting the organization and implementation of outreach activities.
  • Performing other duties as requested by the supervisor, including:
    • Data management
    • Document processing
    • Event organization

Note: This job opening is intended to recruit two intern positions.

Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master’s or equivalent)
  • Be in the final academic year of a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent)
  • Have graduated from such a program and, if selected, commence the internship within one year of graduation

Fields of study may include:

  • Library science
  • Information science
  • Knowledge management
  • Human rights, law, or international relations

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required
  • Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset

Internship-Specific Information

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsor.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the internship country may need to obtain appropriate visas and work authorization.
  • Successful candidates should confirm visa requirements before accepting the offer.
