Job Description

Chemonics seeks a manager to join its Strategic Communications and Design (SC&D) department. SC&D is a dynamic and enthusiastic team responsible for internal, external, and project communications, along with graphic design. With a focus on strategic communications, this manager position is an excellent opportunity for a strong communications specialist to write and share about Chemonics experience and expertise in international development. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with SC&D on social media, video, writing, and visual content initiatives
  • Generate stories for Chemonics’ website and blog, supporting commentaries for external outlets
  • Craft and share stories about our work globally and support our social media strategy
  • Develop communications strategies and implement communications activities
  • Interview executives and senior technical experts for the purpose of creating content for external audiences
  • Develop a strong understanding of departmental, divisional and corporate goals and strategies and ensure they are integrated into communications and outreach activities.
  • Supervise and mentor associates
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in communications, marketing, international development, or related field preferred
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience, including experience in strategic communications
  • Ability to connect individual communications activities or products to higher-level strategies and goals
  • Ability to write story-driven content about complex technical subjects and projects that engages target audiences and enhances the company’s image, with the appropriate level of director supervision
  • Working knowledge of uses and administration of popular social media outlets (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, Instagram, YouTube)
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Photoshop
  • Sensitivity to diverse audiences and demonstrated sound judgement about messaging
  • Interviewing skills and the interpersonal skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships with executives, senior technical experts, and a variety of staff around the world
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure with diverse teams and manage production schedules
  • Willingness to travel and work abroad a minimum of 4-8 weeks per year
  • Fluent English required; proficiency in a foreign language preferred
