We’re looking for a
Markets Assessment Consultant (Mozambique)
TechnoServe Mozambique is working with Sida to design and implement a five-year, Women in Business (WIN) program to support women entrepreneurs and women-led micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in high-potential sectors across the country. WIN starts with a six month market assessment and program design phase which will result in a proposal for a final program design to Sida at the end of the inception phase.
TechnoServe has prioritized seven sectors (Cashew, Sesame, Legumes, Fruits, Vegetables, Poultry and Service markets) for market assessment in the peri-urban and rural areas of Maputo, Nampula and Chimoio. However, during the market assessment period TechnoServe intends to verify the selection of these sectors and areas in consultation with government and private sector players, considering the relevance of the market to women entrepreneurs and women-led micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the sectors potential for growth and feasibility for intervention. These processes of ‘self-identification’ of priority markets will be done in order to drive ownership over the strategies developed and ensure participation at all levels including government and private sector.
TechnoServe has rooted it’s proposed market assessment design in a robust market system development (MSD) approach or the making market work for the poor (M4P) approach that emphasizes the potential for growth in prioritized market systems, the relevance of that growth to target beneficiaries, the role of the private and public sector in enabling growth, consideration of gender and youth in terms of engagement in the market system and the use of environmentally sensitive practices. The MSD approach identifies key constraints and opportunities that are addressed through targeted interventions that aim to enable more inclusive growth.
