MDF is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). It is implemented by Palladium in partnership with Swisscontact.

Role:
MDF is seeking a Communications Officer to anchor its existing communications portfolio and contribute to communications requirements. The Communications Officer is required to work closely with the local MDF country team, as well as the global MDF communications team.

Communications at MDF is led by Communications Specialists within each country of operation, supported and guided by the Communications Director.

The role of the Communications Officer will be to act as a central coordinator, supporting the Specialists and the Communications Director with engaging, targeted communication activities.

* Facilitate the writing and editing of all written communications requirements, including but not limited to internal updates, media releases, reports and documentation, ensuring excellence in quality and presentation
* Support the communications team with coordinating and administrative functions necessary to the smooth functioning of all communications at MDF, such as uploading work to the website, organising and updating work flows and deliverable trackers, and assisting with travel and procurement processes
* Produce multimedia pieces where required - photo essays and videos - coordinating with related resources.
* Work with in-country teams to keep MDF’s website, content and multimedia data up to date, tracked and properly saved.
* Support the team with interesting and engaging graphic design work as requested by the Communications Specialists and Communications Director.
* Coordinate influencing and engagement events, high-level as well as smaller-scale, with minimum supervision. This includes working with the technical team, event managers, event-related vendors, and the media.
* Develop an understanding of MSD principles so that they can be incorporated into communications products.

* At least 3 years’ work experience in communications, media, public relations or other relevant role(s), preferable in international development/community engagement/corporate social responsibility/sustainability.
* An undergraduate qualification in communications, development, journalism, media, design or a related field(s). Relevant professional qualifications would also be considered.
* Excellent editing and writing skills in English
* A strong work ethic, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and turn around projects fast and an enthusiasm for developing communications skills.
* Experience with photography/videography would be preferable.
* Proven experience in event coordination.
* Experience in media relations.
* A creative mindset, with innovative problem-solving skills.
* The ability and desire to work in teams and collaborate on projects.
* Time flexibility allowing for ad-hoc meetings and travel requirements.
* The ability and willingness to travel, where required, to MDF’s projects.

Position open to nationals and permanent residents with authority to live and work in any MDF country (Fiji, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, PNG and Timor-Leste) as well as Australia. As this position may be remote / home-based, residents of countries in the MDF time zones (between Pakistan and Fiji) may also apply. Rates of pay are based on local labour standards.
