Taking advantage of the high levels of civic activism in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), DI aims to work with civil society organizations (CSOs) throughout the region to develop new election monitoring approaches that take advantage of the specific opportunities created by the Arab Spring. DI will collaborate with a wide range of local partners to develop new monitoring techniques. We will use upcoming electoral events in the region to pilot these approaches, conduct rigorous evaluations, and promote the adoption of new techniques that encourage greater civic participation.
DI is recruiting a Research Specialist. The Research Specialist will oversee research into the application of new technologies to election observation in the MENA region. He or she will coordinate the online network and research blog. This includes recruiting people to contribute research pieces and analysis and helping them to manage and develop these pieces. The Research Specialist will also coordinate the evaluation and implementation of pilot election monitoring techniques in coordination with the Program Director and CSOs from across the region. He or she will be an ongoing advisor and liaison to the CSOs on conducting research and analysis on electoral monitoring.
The Research Specialist will be an expert with at least 5 years of experience working in elections preferably in the MENA region. Experience with domestic observation and the application of technology to elections is preferred. He or she will be fluent in Arabic and English, preferably French as well.
