Job Description

Background

Our Migration Unit reports to the Manager of the social sector (SCL). We support migration receiving countries, countries of destination and migration in transit and the host communities through lending operations; regional, subregional and national dialogues; regional cooperation to generate public goods; capacity building and training; and applied research.

We work in coordination with all the relevant Bank units to deploy the Bank instruments to achieve the requisite efficiency and effectiveness to position the Bank as a relevant institution to support both migrants and their respective receiving communities to support inclusive development.

The team

We are looking for a specialist who contributes of the Migration Unit in the production and dissemination of operations-generated knowledge in collaboration with other Bank units. You will provide inputs for regional/national policy dialogues, promote regional partnership initiatives to generate migration-related public goods and propose topics for the capacity building and training program with the highest quality standards.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead or participate in ground-breaking research on migration topics, reviewing and influencing the design and execution of complex research and policy initiatives. Share and disseminate economic/sector knowledge and learning tools to improve the relevance of the IDB to borrowing countries and the region. Develop and apply innovative economic and sector analytic work to support the preparation of country, sector and regional strategies, loan operations and technical assistance programs in the area of migration.
  • Engage in policy dialogue with Government authorities and development partners based on your validated knowledge of the topics, development challenges of client countries, and IDB policies, strategies and guidelines.
  • Build networks and actively engage with gender and diversity specialists in other multilateral and bilateral institutions, academic institutions, think-tanks, NGOs and professional bodies to promote coordinated research initiatives.
  • Collaborate with and support the activities of the IDB Invest and IDB Lab, within the IDB Group.
  • Identify lessons learned in the area of migrations, consistently promoting their adoption and build expertise and reputation by communicating research and interacting with academic/industry peers to stimulate debate on key issues.

What You’ll Need

  • Education: You hold Master’s degree or equivalent Licenciatura/advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in social sciences, applied economics or related field.
  • Experience: You have at least 5 years of relevant and substantive development policy and operational experience. Any experience in behavioral economics projects is preferred
  • Languages: You are proficient in Spanish and English. Your Portuguese or French knowledge would be a plus

Opportunity Summary

Requirements: You are citizen of one of the IDB’s 48-member countries and have no family members currently working at the IDB Group.

As an international specialist, you will be expected to rotate between country assignments every 3 to 5 years.
