New Business Systems Manager

Job Description

Chemonics seeks a new business systems manager for our growing United Kingdom Division (UKD). The manager will lead the design or refinement of Chemonics’ new business systems, resources, and guidelines to enable our UKD regional new business teams to analyze the forward markets of the Department for International Development (DFID) and Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) and manage tenders in line with Chemonics’ best practices. The manager will also support framework management of UKD’s global new business team and perform multiple new business development roles. Responsibilities include:

  • Identify innovative new business reporting, management, and tracking practices in the DFID/FCO contracting industry and repackages these systems for the UKD’s new business processes
  • Liaise regularly with new business staff to understand each team’s needs in order to develop tools and guidance to help them better manage business development efforts and promote outstanding customer service
  • Coordinate with the Global Operations & Improvement team to develop tools, guidelines, and training materials consistent with corporate policies and best practices for new business efforts
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate training for UKD staff on new tools and processes
  • Lead and support efforts to document and refine new and updated new business processes in collaboration with subject matter experts around the company, providing guidance on quality management and new business best practices
  • Serve as the main point of contact between staff and subject matter experts when managing suggestions or requests related to process improvements and corrective actions, and work directly with subject matter experts to discuss improvement suggestions and determine appropriate course of action
  • Serve in a variety of tender leadership roles to ensure that Chemonics’ best practices, new business processes, and quality standards are followed during tender preparation and submission
  • Develop and supervise implementation of tender strategies in collaboration with senior vice president and director of new business development to optimize budget efficiency and win rate
  • Initiate, develop, and manage effective working relationships with clients, potential partners, counterparts, stakeholders, subcontractors, technical specialists, and donor agencies
  • Provide management and oversight to Chemonics’ framework contracts
  • Collaborate with regional operations team to properly resource new business teams within and outside of the UKD
  • Externally promote Chemonics, representing company history, values, and standards by attending events, networking with clients and counterparts, and displaying a clear understanding of the past and present portfolio
  • Oversee management of new business consultants, including timesheet management and ensuring payments are processed for consultants
  • Supervise, develop, and evaluate assigned staff; ensure staff receive regular constructive performance feedback, prompt resolution of problems, and the time and opportunity to grow professionally

  • Degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree preferred
  • Relevant professional work experience and staff supervisory experience; experience with DFID preferred
  • Thorough understanding of UK donor client requirements and methods of business preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Chemonics’ new business processes, systems, and best practices
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated skill and comfort presenting to large groups
  • Advanced research and analytical skills
  • Ability to multitask with strong attention to detail, organization, and time management
  • Experience writing tender or report sections of at least 10 pages
  • Demonstrated leadership on a project management team
  • Willingness to travel and work abroad for extended periods, including fragile and conflict environments; experience living or working in developing countries preferred
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
  • Foreign language proficiency preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • UK work authorization required
