Through a contract with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), ICF Macro, an ICF Company, implements The Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Program. The DHS Program assists developing countries to implement surveys that collect information on fertility, mortality, maternal and child health, family planning, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and nutrition, and also helps to conduct biomarker testing in households and in laboratories. The DHS Program employs public health and nutrition experts, demographers, sampling statisticians, biomarker and laboratory experts and data processing specialists, among others. The DHS Program is seeking to fill a Nutrition Analyst position to support the DHS nutrition portfolio. The position is based in our Metro-accessible office in Rockville, MD.

Key Responsibilities:

The Nutrition Analyst will be working under the supervision of the Senior Nutrition Technical Advisor and will be responsible for conducting nutrition and health related policy and program relevant analyses and helping with all aspects of nutrition data collection, including relevant biomarker collection. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyses of nutrition data and the development of relevant outputs; e.g. policy-relevant multi-country analyses, country-specific nutrition information products, and data dissemination materials for varied audiences
  • Responding to requests from DHS users for nutrition-related technical or analytical support,
  • Working closely with The DHS Program research team to meet joint goals and building capacity in the analysis and use of nutrition data
  • Providing input into monitoring, reporting, and improving nutrition data quality, including assisting with country reports as needed
  • Helping to promote tools for communicating available nutrition-related data, analyses, modules, and/or outputs to USAID Missions, other national-level stakeholders, USAID/Washington, and other global-level stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nutrition, or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in nutrition data collection, analysis, and interpretation, preferably from the DHS, and in using data to identify and meet nutrition program monitoring and evaluation needs as well as contribute to policy
  • Knowledge of nutrition and health issues in low and middle income countries
  • Experience with analysis of large survey data sets and conducting systematic literature reviews
  • Strong knowledge of statistical techniques, including multivariate methods
  • Experience using statistical software packages, preferably Stata
  • Ability to write well and quickly in English
  • Ability to work successfully in teams and with people of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Fluency in French strongly preferred

Travel up to 20% of time to low and middle income countries mainly in Africa and Asia may be required
