PATH has been funded for four years (2016-2020) by the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) to implement the Technical Assistance to Strengthen Capabilities - for Nutrition Project called Maximizing Quality of Scaling Up Nutrition plus(MQSUN+) MQSUN+ is a mechanism for providing technical assistance (TA) to governments in the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) movement and to the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement Secretariat (SMS). The programme aims to catalyze multi-sectoral country efforts to scale up nutrition impact in addition to providing TA to DFID to maximize the quality and effectiveness of its nutrition-related programmes, support evidence generation and lessons learned, and develop nutrition capacity.

PATH seeks a Nutrition Project Specialist to provide overall oversight and coordination for the delivery of specific requests for technical assistance.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage the overall process of providing nutrition technical assistance in response to requests from DFID country offices and Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) countries—e.g., soliciting interest from and participation of MQSUN+ partners, mobilizing staff and consultants for assignments, coordinating travel and approvals, and backstopping staff and consultants during assignments.
  • Support MQSUN+ Component leads as the key point of contact for DFID country office advisors and SUN country focal points for the assigned nutrition TA requests.
  • Consolidate technical input for the MQSUN+ team for designated technical assistance assignments.
  • Serve as principal backstop for staff and consultants working on MQSUN+ assignments and ensure that activities are being carried out according to the approved work plan and budget. Keep the team updated on status of implementation of individual assignments.
  • Obtain final approvals—including internal PATH approvals, approvals from SUN Secretariat, SUN countries, and from DFID—of individual assignments, support closeout—e.g., share final deliverables with appropriate stakeholders, and assist with the final invoices process.
  • Participate in SUN and DFID meetings, as needed, to identify nutrition implementation activities.
  • Participate in project activities in an area of technical expertise (as appropriate) e.g. infant feeding, anemia prevention, nutrition integration, etc.
  • Supports quality assurance of deliverables, including technical and branding issues.
  • Contributes to project communication product and updates for project team and donors.
  • Coordinates and contributes to the development of donor reports.

Required skills and experience:

  • A Master’s Degree in public health, public policy, economics, social sciences, or a related field is preferred, with an emphasis in the field of nutrition.
  • At least five years of experience and demonstrated practical skills in a project coordination/management role, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility working in nutrition programs.
  • Understanding of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive technical concepts.
  • Experience with, or knowledge of DFID procedures is desirable.
  • Experience working on a nutrition project in a developing country is an advantage.
  • Experience managing and coordinating short-term technical assistance is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated capacity to coordinate and manage technical and programmatic support for large, complex donor-funded projects with multiple activity areas.
  • Demonstrated ability and skills in tracking and backstopping multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Understanding of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive technical concepts.
  • Sound knowledge of best practices in project and financial management.
  • Ability to work with teams, where team members may be located in multiple countries and may hail from different cultures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills—including, exceptional cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Written and oral proficiency in English is required and oral and written proficiency in French preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel internationally, up to 20%, at short notice, as required by the project.

Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
